"The most beautiful mountain scenery I know."
- Hermann Hesse
The acclaimed writer, poet and painter Hermann Hesse made a declaration of love to one of the most beautiful landscapes in Switzerland – the Engadine. From the first hike in his youth until old age, Hermann Hesse spent more than a year in the Engadine mountain valley. He stated that this region with its many lakes and snow-capped mountain peaks is "the most beautiful mountain scenery I know".
Region Champfèr - St. Moritz
Champfèr is an enchanting village in the Upper Engadine between Silvaplana and St. Moritz. The lapping stream "Ova da Suvretta" runs right through the village and forms the border between the two communities. Politically, Champfèr belongs to both St. Moritz and Silvaplana. South of the village lies Lake Champfèr, the northern part of Lake Silvaplana. To the east of Champfèr there are two other small lakes "Lej Marsch" and "Lej Nair".
